Salud Medical Center Hosts Drug Take Back Location

WOODBURN – Having unused or expired medications around the house can be confusing. Many families wonder, “Where should I put them? Should I throw them out? Flush them? What if someone misuses them?”
Salud Medical Center is now a pilot site with DEA approval for Medication Take Back, where you can dispose of unused medications year-round.
“This is so valuable to our community,” Clinical Pharmacist Cathy Zehrung said.
Zehrung also said that drug take back locations like at Salud Medical Center helps keep unused and unwanted medications from being used for unintended purposes.
Unused and unwanted medications around the house can be cause for concern for families with children, who may be able to get into the bottle, or a burglar who wants to use the medications to resell or for recreational use.
“Not only does it avoid polluting our environment, it gets unused medications away from kids, and off the streets,” she said.
The drop site at Salud Medical Center, at 1175 Mt. Hood Avenue, is open during pharmacy hours Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Look for the green disposal container near the front entry of the clinic.
